Monocouche Applications: How to Master Colour Inconsistencies

When applying PRB Monocouche render, achieving a uniform and consistent colour is paramount.

At PRB Systems, we understand the technical characteristics of render. Factors such as curing time, additives and finishing techniques can all influence the final appearance of the render, which is why we are offering the below advice on how to achieve the right results every time to achieve the perfect finish.

In this video, Joel covers the key factors that affect the final colour of monocouche render and how to ensure a uniform finish across your project.

Joel goes into detail about the following applications that might be impacting the quality of your project:

  • Natural Curing – One of the simplest ways to maintain colour consistency is to allow the render to cure naturally overnight. This ensures a slower drying process, keeping the colour lighter and more even across the surface.
  • Using an Accelerator – Accelerators, such as PRB’s, are often used to speed up the curing process, particularly in the colder weather. They trigger a chemical reaction that impacts the final colour. The faster the render cures, the darker it will appear. To prevent inconsistencies, you must follow the specific guidelines we advise for each unique accelerator.
  • Floated vs Scraped Finish – Different finishing techniques can also alter the way your render appears. Even when using the same product, a floated finish compacts the surface, creating a smoother texture that reflects light differently. As a result, floated surfaces often look lighter than scraped finishes.

To avoid noticeable differences in colour, always stick to one method across the entire project. Apply the render in a single-go across the full elevation to ensure a uniform finish. Small changes in technique or curing conditions can lead to visible variations, so planning and consistency are essential for the best results.
