Occupation Canal Bridge, part of the Stroudwater Canal in Whitminster, is a Scheduled Monument dating back to the 18th century. Built with a distinctive elliptical arch, the bridge was originally constructed to provide access to farmland separated by the canal’s creation.
As with many historic structures, time had taken its toll. Masonry stabilisation and vegetation removal were carried out as the first stage of conservation, before DB Plastering introduced a traditional PRB lime render system to protect and preserve the bridge for the future.
The specification began with Primchaux PE, providing the ideal primer for a reliable bond. A stainless steel riblath-reinforced Belle Époque Sous Enduit base coat was then applied, creating strength and stability, before the system was completed with Belle Époque Finition in the colour Blanc de la Côte.
The breathable, sympathetic render system offers long-term protection while maintaining the historic character of this landmark. Thanks to the expertise of DB Plastering, the project demonstrates how PRB products can support the careful balance of conservation and performance required in heritage restoration.
